Would you use sour cream on the exact day that is expired?

How do you know when it is bad?Would you use sour cream on the exact day that is expired?
The expiration date is there to give you an estimated time and to keep stores from selling product past the date. Typically you still have a couple days. Smell it, if it doesn't smell sour and there's no mold it's fine. But always stick by the good 'ole rule, ';when in doubt, throw it out!';Would you use sour cream on the exact day that is expired?
Absolutely.

Expiration dates are exaggerated by the companies for liability reasons. They don't want to get sued because you got sick. So, if something expires in, say, 2 months, the companies will place an expiration date of, like, 1 month to 6 weeks just to be safe.

Also, you need to make sure that what you are looking at is an expiration date. For example, most dairy products, like milk, don't use expiration dates. They use ';sell by'; dates. If your sour cream says ';sell by'; then you still have a good 2 weeks left at a minimum.

And, of course, you could always resort to just smelling it. Do you know what sour cream smells like? Because it won't smell like that any more. Also, it begins to turn yellow.

I hope this helps.
I would, but that's just me. After the expiration date, I'd use it to bake something like a sour cream coffee cake.

It's bad when it becomes yellow (or other interesting colors) and hard around the edges.

Some sour cream manufacturers recommend that you use the back of a spoon to smooth it all back down into an even layer before putting the lid back on it, and it seems to work for me: no crusty bits.
If it is the last date of sale, which is different than an expiration date, then the sour cream should be OK to use within a couple days of the SALE date.

Use your commonsense. If it doesn't look or smell right throw it out. As the old cooking saying goes... ';when in doubt throw it out';.
The expiration date is the last day it can be sold. That does not mean it is bad. It will last at least 2-4 weeks after the date. It you see mold then it's time to dump it. Keep it mind it's the last day store can sell it, and dating varies from state to state.
i dont even check the expiration date on the sour cream

cuz i can always immediately tell when its bad

and you know when its bad when it is kinda chunky

and you find some nasty green gunk in there

trust me...its really really obvious
depends if it smells bad.

and how many times you took it out to use it and set it on the counter or table for any amount of time.
yeah id use it the exact day.

heck, id even use it a week later.

stop being picky and just eat the damn thing. dont listen to expiration dates.

if it tastes good, eat it!
really the experation date are suppose to be also for the store its when it needs tob e sold by usually it can last about 4 days to a week before it starts going bad.
If it had not been opened yet I would. If it's open and separated really bad throw it away.
Of course.... things don't suddenly go bad in one day! I'd use it (as long as it had been unopened and refrigerated) for a week or two after expiration date without worry.
Expiration dates are usually well before the product expires becomes stale etc. However I would use it right away.
HI YA Miss Tucker, Don't take any chances, discretion

is still the better part of valor.

Eric S
i would use it. it's good up until that day, so it's fine... even tomorrow i might eat it. smell it and make sure there's no mold.
Yes I would. You can still use a few days after expiration as long as there is no mold or abnormal smell.
Yes, only if ur fridge is 40 degrees or below. At that temp items like milk will keep a week past sometimes. Smell will tell though. And mix it up, make sure it isn't too watery
I always do..the expiration date is just the date that the store has to sell it by..Ive been doing it for years and never got sick yet ...
if it had been opened previously, i'd say no.

but if the protective seal is on top, go for it.
if you are cooking with it, it should be fine. Straight eating it, check to make sure its not chunky or has a stench.
You could smell it- if that doesn't help, try some, but only like a reeeeally small amount.
Yes, I use it until it is a week over date unless it is green and growing.
yes,it's actually still good for a week after the date,as long as it has not been contaminated
sure as long as there is no mold on it or in it and it smells fine.
Depends how it tastes...
no gross! When it smells bad or the date has been reached.
No

You know when it's bad if there's black dots forming
I wouldn't.
When in doubt, throw it out.
of course

if it had not been opened already
yes, why not?

strengthens Your imune system
When in doubt throw it out!
