The date on the package is really the ';sell by'; date which isn't the expiration date, just the date that stores can no longer sell it. Stuff is usually ok a little while afterward. I say, if it looks ok and smells ok, taste bout a spoonful to see if it taste ok! If so, use it, if not, spit it out and chunk it!Our sour cream expired 20 days ago. Theres no mold! It smells ok! It would probably be ok since it is a cultured dairy product. Before the advent of refrigeration, dairy fermentation via culturing as in butter, yogurt, kefir, and the like was the way to make these foods last longer. You might even want to consider culturing your own dairy products - it is much cheaper in the long run than buying them from the store all the time.

But keep in mind that culturing does not extend product life indefinitely - even yogurt will spoil and be unpalatable at the least eventually. If it hasn't developed a foul odor you would probably be all right.
20 days is quite a long time. take a little bit of it and eat it. does it taste okay? if it does then its fine. ive eaten stuff like mashed sweet potato mix that was a few months expired but was still delicious. i bet its okay
It might not be safe to eat if the product contains milk product. I drank some outdated milk last year and had some major stomach pains for the next few days.
It's not worth the risk of getting sick especially from a dairy product. Just buy more sour cream.
After 20 days it becomes Extra Sour Cream, a delicacy in some cultures
Why take the chance? Sour Cream isn't expensive, go buy a new container.
if theres no mold its no problem! if it smells fine, it is. dont worry bout it just eat it
I wouldn't do it.

It totally should have molded by now.

';When in doubt, throw it out';
are you serious? just spend the two bucks to buy a new tub!
